The GOD Who Sees
Nothing makes me feel quite as foolish as when I’m sitting in an auditorium and spot someone waving. Naturally, I assume they’re waving at me, so I wave back—only to realize they were actually waving at someone behind me. In that moment, I have to sheepishly lower my hand or, worse, pretend I was waving at someone else behind them.
It’s in those moments that I feel invisible—like someone is looking past me or through me, not seeing me at all. And while that’s a lighthearted example, the feeling of being unseen can carry much more weight in other situations. Not “feeling seen” is a growing issue in our increasingly isolated society.
Today, we turn to the story of Hagar—a woman who faced significant hardship and almost certainly felt alone and invisible. That is, until God stepped into her story.
