Why Pray?

I've made it a habit to walk around our beautiful park often. I've found that it helps me think about the upcoming sermon, including what I want to say, a possible illustration, or even a cheesy joke. This often results in me essentially preaching to myself in the park, with those working in the garden looking at me like I'm the weirdest person they know (which may very well be true).

Unfortunately, sometimes this can mirror how we view prayer. When I pray, I sometimes feel like I'm talking to myself and wonder if my prayers have any impact. Does it really matter whether I talk to God or not? What is the real purpose of prayer? This morning, we will explore the mystery of prayer and wrestle with this most unique and holy conversation.
