CC 08: Do Not Be Anxious

Jun 2, 2024    Garrett Marshall

There are several “do not” statements throughout the Sermon on the Mount. “Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not break your oaths, etc.” And for the most part, I can feel like I’m really nailing it in terms of those. I haven’t killed anyone at all this week! But when Jesus says “Do not be anxious” or “Do not worry” my sky high confidence comes crashing back down to Earth. I’m a worrier, its what I do. And if I were a betting man, I’d say some of you might be “worriers” too. So how do we handle our anxiety in the face of a very anxiety inducing culture? Can Jesus really be serious about suggesting that we can have a worry-free lifestyle? As we will see, he is very serious, and gives a strategy to achieve just that.
