Kingdom Parables 2: The Parable of the Rich Fool
In ABBA’s song “Money, Money, Money,” we are introduced to a woman who works hard but can’t seem to get ahead, so she dreams of being rich, either by snagging a well-off man or winning it big in Vegas. The song became incredibly popular and, in my opinion, not just because of the catchy melody but because it hits on an idea that I think everyone in the world has had at one time or another, “If I were rich, all my problems would go away.” This idea is tempting, as many of our daily stressors seem to revolve around money, many times the lack of it.
In the parable we will be studying, we are introduced to a farmer who has that wish granted. He finds himself with wealth to spare and a chance to live an easy life. However, things don’t go as planned. What challenges does this often neglected story teach us?
