Walking with Wisdom 11: The Limits of Wisdom

“Fill in the Blank: I want to be the best at ___________. It is good for you to aspire to excellence and use your gifts to honor God. However, we all know that we are flawed and have limitations. So, do we simply push through those limitations? Many popular sayings advocate for working hard and overcoming obstacles. For Example, “You can do anything you set your mind too” or

“The only limits that you have are those that you set for yourself.” On the one hand, these sayings have a proper place and have done much good for pushing people beyond their expectations. On the other hand, they are obviously false: we do have limitations, including the ability to fully attain wisdom.” - Lance R. Hawley. While Proverbs is generally very positive about the availability of wisdom, it also cautions that their are limits to what humans can attain. And that actually, this is a good thing. This morning, we look at why that is, and how are lives can be shaped by this principle.
