Walking with Wisdom 5: Wisdom’s Call

People personify all kinds of objects and ideas. Here are a few examples in common expressions: “Opportunity was knocking at her door” “The thunder clapped angrily” “Love reached out and took hold of me” Proverbs uses the same literary device on several occasions, most recently when it personified sin and temptation as “The Forbidden Woman.” This week, we look closer at “Lady Wisdom,” once again, a personified form of God’s wisdom. It does this to invite the reader to not look at wisdom as something just to be gained and used, but to have a relationship with, a personality with whom one can talk with, fall in love with even. Let us look at Lady Wisdom’s invitation, to see whom she really is.
