Walking with Wisdom 3: The Path of Wisdom
n the English language we have a lot of metaphors for the “paths” of life. For instance, when someone feels lost in life they often times say they are “looking for direction.” When a relationship is hitting a rough patch people will say it is an “uphill climb.” The author Robert Frost writes metaphorically of “The Road Not Taken.” In fact, a song that never ceases to get stuck in my head proclaims that “Life is a highway, and I want to ride it all night long”
Comparing life to a path is nothing new, and Proverbs is especially concerned with movement along this path in the metaphorical sense. In fact, it will emphasize that there is no wisdom in staying in one’s current level of maturity. As we continue in our study, let us keep in mind that Proverbs challenges us to always further our understanding of God’s wisdom, there is no staying still on this path, either we are moving towards wisdom, or away.
