MTAF 4: GOD’S GRIEF
In the English language, many words convey similar meanings but differ in intensity. For example, someone can be happy, but they can also be overjoyed. Someone can be mad, but they can also be outraged. Similarly, someone can be sad, but they can also be grieved or sorrowful.
As we explore this week’s Godly emotion, we see that God's sadness is always depicted as much more intense than simply feeling a little down. He is almost always grieved or brokenhearted. His sorrow is profound and powerful. He is not embarrassed to express a somewhat taboo emotion like grief with intensity.
In our journey to know God better, we should examine this emotion—this aspect of His character—carefully and ask the important question, “What grieves the heart of God?”
